PAR joins the IPSI steering committee
PAR was selected to join the Steering Committee of The International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI). IPSI is a global partnership that works to maintain and revitalise socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS). As a Steering Committee member, PAR will support IPSI activities and continue to promote the use of biodiversity in addressing sustainability and resilience challenges.
The concept of satoyama refers to a landscape approach to biodiversity conservation that seeks to rebuild a mutually nurturing relationship between people and nature. Through its activities, PAR has been promoting such an approach that emphases the importance of diversity across scales and recognises local communities as key actors in biodiversity conservation.
A recent activity of IPSI was a contribution to the development of Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. The IPSI Secretariat produced and submitted recommendations for the upcoming Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. The recommendations focus on incorporating landscape approaches into the Framework to create “societies in harmony with nature”.
